*_ *Position Description* * Overall assessment of Patient needs with resulting care plans and evaluation.
* Supervise and assist nursing care of patients.
* Observe and report symptoms.
* Administers medications as prescribed by the Provider and notes reactions.
* Sets up treatment trays, prepares instruments and other equipment and assists Providers with treatments.
* Assists in administering highly specialized therapy with complicated equipment.
* Analyzes and evaluates the nursing service required in the hospital.
* Arranges for the assistance required by the members of the medical staff and other professional personnel and cooperating with them in providing for the patient’s total needs.
* Provides and maintains accurate descriptive records of medical treatment and nursing care of patients.
* Defines the responsibilities and specific duties of the aides.
* Maintains cordial relationships with the patients and their families.
*Performance Requirement* * Assumes responsibilities of developing and executing plan for own growth.
* Evaluates own knowledge and capabilities in nursing problems and attempts to be familiar with current information available.
* Assumes responsibility for administrative management of her area of activity.
* Coordinates nursing assignments to best utilize staff available in regard to needs of patients and staff.
* Presents nursing aides with a current working plan with emphasis on basic needs in order of importance.
* Communicates with nursing aides concerning their evaluation and understanding of patient’s care, disease, and special needs.
* Assumes responsibilities for meeting needs of patient.
* Assumes responsibility for identifying, understanding and meeting personnel needs.
* Specific teaching to patients and nursing staff as needed and directed.
* Evaluates special nutritional needs and communicates information to the kitchen staff.
* Assumes responsibility for systemic evaluation of nursing care, personnel development program and personnel performance.
* Thorough knowledge and helps formulate and enforce hospital policies and procedures.
* Securing supplies.
*Special Demands* * Must have a genuine interest in nursing.
Willingness to work with the realization that incompetence and error may have serious consequences for patients.
Understanding, patient, and tact in dealing with infirm, chronic or acutely ill patients.
Tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, their families and visitors.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with other personnel and with hospital staff.
Alertness and skill in recognizing and identifying symptoms and initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment for unusual or unfavorable conditions.
Resourcefulness in emergency situations.
*Qualifications* * Graduation from accredited school of nursing.
* Current registration with the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
* Good physical and mental health-requires lifting associated with patient care.
*Training* * Experience preferred but not necessary.
* In-service training required.
*Job Knowledge* * Good knowledge of general nursing theory and practice including those basic knowledge’s relating to nursing such as: drugs, biological, physical, social, and medical science and their application for better understanding of patient care problems.
Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practice for care of specific cases.
Familiarity with organization, functions, policies, regulations, and procedures of hospitals as they relate to nursing services.
Knowledge of literature and new development in nursing fields.
